A glimpse at the Midwest US

๐Ÿ“United States

August 16th, 2023

A car, two friends and plenty of time. What does the midwest have to offer? To keep it brief, the landscape is amazing, the people are extremely extrovert and kind. The food is, wellโ€ฆ pretty American!

Rice plantation

๐Ÿ“Vang Vieng, Laos

July 16th of 2022

Helping the locals in the rice fields at sunset is not a struggle; itโ€™s a privilege. At sunset, after a day around the area I was waiting for a hitchhike. I saw some locals planting rice in the distance. I did not hesitate to join them and helping them finish planting the field. What a nice experience!

Laos

In the 60s and 70s Laos was heavily bombed making it the most bombed country in the world. The US dropped bombs continuously for 580.000 bombing missions. This is equivalent to a bombing mission every 8 minutes, 24 hours a day for 9 years straight. One third of these bombs failed to detonate and they still ruin lives nowadays.

Goodbye Bangkok!

๐Ÿ“Bangkok, Thailand

July 8th, 2022

After a week in Bangkok it is time to move on. My friend Wei has shown tremendous hospitality and has treated me extremely nice. But now it is time to move on and say goodbye. The trip still remains greatly unplanned but tomorrow we will embark on a sleeper train and head towards the north: Laos!

Bangkok

July 4th, 2022

Bangkokโ€™s streets are one of the busiest Iโ€™ve ever seen.

I am the captain now!

๐Ÿ“Koh Phi Phi, Thailand

July 1st of 2022

In the past week I have explored the islands and finally relaxed after a busy year. Breakfasts on the beach, coral dives and paradisiac sunsets have come to an end: we are leaving Koh Phi Phi. The trip ahead still remains unplanned but there is only one thing certain: Bangkok!

Koh Phi Phi islands

๐Ÿ“Koh Phi Phi, Thailand

June 26th, 2022

I just arrived to Thailand! I will be revisiting old places and getting some rest before my 2-month long backpacking trip through Asia.

These islands are surrounded by marine life and there is so many things to do and explore. During the night, the Thai fishermen can be seen trawling behind the horizon with their characteristic green light.

Singapore

With its vibrant skyscrapers and stunning nature, it is hard to imagine that Singapore is one of the most influential economic hubs in the planet. A small state comprising of 64 islands delivers its citizens both economic growth and personal space.

Ireland

Amidst the busy days I managed to escape my ordinary routine to visit my friend George in Cork. Was there a better time to experiment with the black and white analog camera?

Roadtrip through Spain

๐Ÿ“Spain

May 23rd of 2022

Never ceases to surprise me the vast amount of land and inhospitable areas that lie hidden between the touristic cities in Spain. In between the north and the south there are immense amounts of โ€œmiddles of nowheresโ€ to be explored.

Walking The Netherlands

๐Ÿ“The Netherlands

November 6th, 2021

The lack of mountains can be very frustrating especially for nature lovers like me. But this can be compensated by organizing a long walk through the plains: 100km in 24 hours canโ€™t be that badโ€ฆ It turns out it was! Walking easily becomes painful! Nevertheless it was such an enjoyable experience.

Revisiting the northern Spain

๐Ÿ“Spain

August 16th of 2021

Cliffs, mountains, rivers, plains and zigzagging roads ensemble the northern Spanish landmarks. I set up to rediscover these places by car throughout the course of several days. The experience was magnificent and perfect for a disconnected disappearance.

Morogoro

๐Ÿ“Morogoro, Tanzania

July 17th of 2021

I arrived at Morogoro late last night. The town is at the foot of the Uluguru Mountain Range. The views are astonishing and I have a feeling this is the perfect representation of the deep Tanzania where astonishing nature and the local culture merge together. The city is medium sized and serves as a pass city in between the capital and Dar Es Salam. I visited three schools today and got invited for a hike with two locals tomorrow, inwards the mountain range.

Lunch with a local family

๐Ÿ“Dar Es Salam, Tanzania

July 16th of 2021

I accepted the invitation to have lunch with a local family. They have treated me so well and gave me quite a lot of food. It was such a nice experience and they made me feel like I was home. The food was exquisite and the conversations were extraordinary. I have decided to head inland Tanzania and continue my journey. I boarded a packed minibus heading towards the west.

Outskirts of Dar Es Salam

๐Ÿ“Dar Es Salam, Tanzania

July 15th of 2021

I had the chance to explore the outskirts of Dar Es Salam. The chaos seems to extend beyond the city limits. There are landfills everywhere and people donโ€™t seem bother by them. It has caught my eye the vast amount of children in this country. They are everywhere and they play with each other. I also visited a church where I had the chance to receive confession. The church also runs a school where I got welcomed with open arms. I got invited tomorrow for lunch with the priest and a local family.

Tanzania: First day

๐Ÿ“Dar Es Salam, Tanzania

July 14th of 2021

Arriving to Dar Es Salam reminds me of the chaotic city life that rules in most African cities. The city is probably one of the busiest I have ever been to. Tons of chaotic events are happening all at once, riots, military presence, beggars, crime, scams, arguments, but most of the people are nice. Among all this chaos there is something I am enjoying but I am not able to decipher what it is.

Africa: here I come

๐Ÿ“Dar Es Salam, Tanzania

July 13th of 2021

I just embarked on a flight to Tanzania. My trip still remains unplanned up to this point and the duration of this trip remains uncertain. I want to explore Tanzania and neighboring countries although I do not know anyone or anything there. I hope I meet new people and get to know first hand the circumstances that these people live in. My safety is not guaranteed so I will have to evaluate every situation carefully and avoid conflict. On the other hand I must find a tradeoff between safety and adventure since the most appalling conditions are the most educative ones.
